Salem Arts Association News: March 15th, 2010
Seeds of Summer, Film Fest, and Art Throb Party

We all enjoyed a great night when our Seeds of Summer show opened among all the Film Fest activity! Thank you to all who are participating (the show runs through April 5th) and special thanks to Sara Ashodian for doing such a great job hanging the show. We've got 29 pieces in the SAtv Gallery so stop by if you're in the mood for spring and check it out. In fact, if you have a proposal for a future show (maybe with one or two others) send it on to myself or Patrick Kennedy at SAtv.

Speaking of proposals we are looking to send in a few from the SAA to the Salem Arts Festival in June. Our largest one will be the ARTS WALK, with "Meet the Artists" –en plein air– and in the studio, June 5th and 6th respectively. We've got a few other ideas cooking let us know if you want to join in. If you have some other ideas of your own send them in to Jennifer Bell at Salem Main Streets, the deadline has been extended from March 15th to March 30th.

Let's Rock!

Artist Row Update!

Artist Row! It's just around the corner and the Salem Arts Association Gallery will be opening soon. The retail committee has asked us for a few things: first, they'd love a used computer that can be set-up with a running slide show of members work. Anyone know someone who has upgraded but would be happy to donate a computer? Wouldn't it be great for our visitors to be able to see all of our members work if they could sit a minute? Second, the group would also like us to put our creative minds to work and come up with some themes for the season's shows! Ideally we'd like to give you a running start with our eBlast on the topics so you have enough time to maybe do some new work.
Send theme ideas to Dan Browne at gallery@salemartsassociation.org

The Blue Show: All Things Water April 3-24

Calls for Art! Blue Show!In April 2009 the Marblehead Arts Association, in collaboration with the Salem Arts Association, produced the extremely successful, "Green Show: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." This year's collaborative exhibit in April will have an emphasis on water. We are looking forward to another stimulating and exciting show.

Water means many different things to many people. It is a vital ingredient of life. Though it is often a source of inspiration it can also be a destructive force. Some may imagine the light bouncing off the waves on a crisp September morning, while others may remember the devastation from Hurricane Katrina.

Marblehead and other coastal towns are exposed to the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Over the years it has been a livelihood for many. For others the waters around the North Shore have been a source of great pleasure. Artists from the Marblehead Arts and Salem Arts Associations are invited to submit paintings, photographs, sculpture, mixed-media and other works of art depicting individual interpretations of what water means to them.

For more details visit:
http://salemartsassociation.org/calls_for_art

Special Note:
The reception is SUNDAY, April 11, not SATURDAY, April 11

S'ART -the SAA online eMagazine

S'Art summer 2009.jpgThis season we are planning to convert the format to 11" x 8.5" so that we can more easily print a few copies to sell at the SAA Gallery. This will allow us to place more ads of local businesses in the back. We're looking for some writers? Got an idea? We've got a few and would love someone to put together a few articles for us. We're still looking to have images from anyone in the membership who had work in the SAA gallery on Artists' Row last season. Please send JPGs with name, title, medium, size to James Goncalves at james@gardenhead.net. Got an idea for an article? Send it in to EGH.ARTS@gmail.com. If you attend a SAA event and take pictures please send them on as well to James. We'd love some images from Dancing with the Arts!
